The name of the park originates from the Tarangire river that crosses through the park, being the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons. The park is famous for its massive number of elephants, baobab trees, leopard, and lions. Along the banks of Tarangire river, you will find herds of wildebeest and zebra, followed by grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, and many others.
2nd day of your Tanzania safari, travel to Lake Manyara: Lake Manyara National Park boasts a higher diversity of plant and animal species than the far larger Serengeti. Lake Manyara’s thick forests are a unique and surprising habitat for sightings of lion, which are known to climb and lounge in the trees, as well as hunting on the grassy shores of the lake.
Other wildlife includes large herds of buffalo, endangered African wild dog, cheetah, Maasai giraffe, and impala. Troops of several hundred olive baboons can be encountered in the park, which is also home to Syke’s monkey, short-eared galago, Cape clawless otters, Egyptian mongoose, hippo, and klipspringer.
Lake Manyara is also an excellent bird watching destination, with flamingo and other fascinating species spotted in and around the soda lake. More than 400 species of birds, including waterfowl and migrants, can be found in the area.

Day 1 – Zanzibar to Lake Manyara National Park
Flight from Zanzibar to Arusha followed by a drive toward the famously Lake Manyara National for game viewing. The park offers a compact game-viewing circuit and is one of the most diverse reserves in the country. Later in the evening, drive to the camp or lodge for leisure, dinner and overnight.
Day 2 – Tarangire National Park to Zanzibar
Morning breakfast, a drive to Tarangire National Park with packed lunch for game viewing, and an afternoon drive to the airport for departure to Zanzibar.
